“A World
Without…” Columbia Summer Arts Summit Culminating Event
Last week (07/25/2013) TEAM TMV
stumbled upon the Columbia Summer Arts Summit Culminating Event that took place
in the south loop of Chicago. There, we witnessed the youth enlighten the
community through the arts. Having never heard of this program, we were
extremely intrigued. The presentation was put on by several students from the
Center for Community Arts Partnerships that included Chicago Public Schools
like North Lawndale College Prep, Schurz High School, and Sullivan High School.
The presentations were based on what the students learned over a period of four
weeks. This included theatre, dance, the art of djing, and art itself. This program gave them an outlook of possible
careers and college options. It also allowed for them to interact with peers
and college instructors. We here at TEAM TMV, were very impressed to say the
least. This program not only educated these youth, but it also kept them off of
the street and out of trouble.
“The Center for Community Arts Partnerships
(CCAP) at Columbia College Chicago transforms the lives of Chicago’s young
people by creating communities of learning in and through the arts. The key to
CCAP’s success is its commitment to building sustainable reciprocal
partnerships between the college, public schools and community. Through these
unique relationships, CCAP and its partners create communities, and ultimately
better educated students. For more information visit www.colum.edu/ccap.” Below is a few pictures that were taken at the event. These pictures were done by Thelonius Stokes.
